A 22-year-old man was charged with having more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood during spot checks conducted by Greater Sudbury Police in the South End of Sudbury Dec. 9.

The suspect had attempted to avoid the spot check. He was stopped by police “without incident.”

Officers noticed an odor of alcohol on the man, who then registered a “fail” on a roadside screening device. His vehicle was also found to have “numerous deficiencies.”

He was released by police on a promise to appear in court.

The suspect had his vehicle seized for seven days under new legislation which came into effect Dec. 1.

A total of 300 drivers were checked during the spot check. Twenty-five Highway Traffic Act tickets were also issued during the spot check.
