Another 20 charges will be laid by the Ontario Provincial Police following a second investigation by its Anti-Rackets branch.

On Feb. 18, officers went to several bars to investigate security personnel and security companies. A number of businesses were in violation of the private security and investigative services Act (PSISA), police allege.

Charges include six counts of working as an unlicenced security guard, six counts of employing an unlicenced security guard, two counts of being an unregistered business and various uniform violations.

One person was arrested for trespassing during the investigation.

Under PSISA, people working as a security officer must be licenced and establishments that hire in-house security guards must register with the private security and investigative service branch of the OPP.

Businesses hiring out security guards must also be licenced and are responsible for ensuring its employees are also licenced.

People convicted of working as an unlicenced security guard can face up to $25,000 in fines and a year in custody.

Registered businesses can be fined $250,000.

This is the sixth investigation in a series of proactive enforcement efforts by the OPP.
