A 25-year-old Sudbury man was attacked by his own pit bull after attempting to goad the animal to attack another man, a press release from Greater Sudbury Police said.

At around 8 p.m. April 25, a resident of Worthington Crescent witnessed the suspect urinating in his yard. The suspect and the victim started “exchanging words.” The suspect then threatened to sic his pit bull on the victim, saying that his dog would “tear him apart,” a police press release said.

The suspect hit his dog, hoping to force it to be more aggressive. The dog turned on the suspect and bit his arm and face.

An “unknown man” who had observed the incident pulled the dog from the suspect. The suspect then got up and struck the victim with his fist. The victim fought back and the suspect fled.

A short time later, the suspect returned with another man, minus the dog. The suspect was wielding a dog chain. He attempted to fight the victim with the chain.

Again, the victim fought back, until Greater Sudbury Police arrived and apprehended the suspect.

The suspect has been charged with assault, assault with a weapon, and breach of probation.
