An early-morning fire “completely gutted” a single-storey bungalow on Caruso Street in Coniston, Dec. 6.

“When the crews arrived, the fire was coming through the roof,” Greater Sudbury Fire Services Platoon Chief David Wickenden said. “Pretty well everything is gutted.”

Damage is estimated at roughly $100,000 to $130,000. One man lived in the home. He was not at home at the time of the fire, Wickenden said.

Fire crews were still on scene as of about 9:30 a.m., putting out hot spots.
Wickenden said he and other fire department officials are in the early stages of investigating the fire.

He said he doesn't expect to bring in the fire marshal's office because “the only time we bring them in is in suspicious fires, and right now there's nothing pointing in that direction.”
