One three-day suspension was handed out to a motorist Dec. 14 as Greater Sudbury Police Service continues its Festive RIDE program.

A total of 450 drivers were checked in Wahnapitae, Coniston and Lloyd Street. Police laid 24 charges under the Highway Traffic Act for such things as seatbelt infractions, as well as one charge under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The Festive RIDE program is aimed at reducing property damage, injuries and death caused by impaired driving, and checks are intended to target high-incident and high-complaint areas.

The GSPS, Action Sudbury and STRIDE (Sudbury Taskforce to Remove Impaired Drivers Everywhere) remind residents about Operation Lookout, a Canada-wide, year-round public awareness program that encourages the public and / or businesses to call 9-1-1 if they suspect an impaired driver.
