Impaired driver charged for double the legal limit

 A 21-year-old Timmins man is facing charges of impaired driving after he was found to be two times over the legal limit of 0.80.

The driver was stopped by the Greater Sudbury Police Service during a RIDE check point on Ste. Anne’s Road on Dec. 23. The man failed a roadside screening test and subsequently provided breath samples a police headquarters. His driver’s licence has been suspended as a result.

He was released pending a court and finger print date.

Police conducted 10 road side tests after checking 680 vehicles during the evening on Clarabelle Road, Paris at Boland streets and Elgin Street at Ste. Anne’s Road.

Spot checks were also conducted during the afternoon of Dec. 23 between 1:45 p.m. and 4 p.m. and a total of 218 vehicles were stopped. Police were set up at a number of locations including Madison Avenue, where 27 vehicles were checked, Woodbine Avenue, where 128 vehicles were checked, Montee Rouleau in Rayside Balfour, where 62 vehicles where checked.

No impaired driving charges were laid; however, one driver was charged for using a hand-held device.

The Festive R.I.D.E. Program is aimed at reducing property damage, injuries and death caused by impaired driving. R.I.D.E. checks are intended to target high-incident / high-complaint areas.

  • Where was the security at Cranky Joe's that allowed the young driver to kill three teens on Father's Day no less? Maybe spot checks from R.I.D.E should be down the street from Cranky Joe's when the drunken patrons leave. the owner is now giving a few bucks to every charity in town to atone for his sins.
