On Jan. 24, officers from the Greater Sudbury Police Service received information that a distraught man was driving in the Levack area in possession of a firearm.

Police were able to locate the vehicle still being driven in the Levack area, where a pursuit ensued. However, due to safety concerns the pursuit was called off.

The vehicle and driver were located a short time later at a residence in Levack, and a 35-year-old man was arrested without incident. He is charged with flight from police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and careless use of a firearm.

A search of the Firearms Registry helped connect the man to the firearm, which police were unable to locate at the time of the arrest.

In was learned that the man had tossed the gun from the vehicle somewhere in the vicinities of Onaping, Levack or Cartier.

A search of the area was conducted and the shotgun was located by members of the Ontario Provincial Police.

  • OK, this is really strange. Since when does the court pay the defences lawyer fees out of the drug money taken from the victim (in this case the drug store) and then allows the convicted criminal keep 15,400 of her own money as it was not made by crime. I posted this on the Sudbury Star site and it disappeared and all of a sudden they closed comments, and deleted mine. Was this not a fair question???
