A 25-year-old Sudbury man will have his day in court after the Ontario Provincial Police seized more than $70,000 from a vehicle he was driving.
The Gogama OPP is in the midst of completing its investigation into an incident resulting in the seizure of $70,782.56.
A Gogama OPP officer stopped a 2011 Dodge pickup truck for a traffic violation on Highway 144, in Neville Township, on Jan. 28.
Based on observations made by the officer, a search of the vehicle was undertaken pursuant to the Liquor Licence Act, according to a press release.
In the course of the search of the vehicle, a quantity of beer was located along with numerous bundles of Canadian currency in various denominations.
The second occupant of the vehicle, who police report is from Moosonee, and the Sudbury man were arrested immediately by the OPP.
Both men have been charged with possessing property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Both men have been released from police custody on an promise to appear, which requires them to attend Provincial Court on March 20 to answer to the charges laid against them.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
