A 47-year-old Sturgeon Falls man was killed when the snowmobile he was driving struck a tree 25 km north of Hagar on Jan. 28.

The Ontario Provincial Police responded to the call at about 4 p.m., where they identified the victim as Allan N. S. Bell, who had recently moved to Sturgeon Falls from the Windsor area.

The OPP investigation determined that a group of three snowmobile riders were travelling along OFSC trail D 104 when the lead snowmobile, being operated by Bell, left the trail and struck a tree.

An OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) is assisting in the investigation. It was snowing at the time of the collision and speed was a factor; however, it is not believed that alcohol contributed to the crash.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today in Sudbury.
