A 33-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, as well as impaired operation after he nearly struck a police officer on March 17.

Greater Sudbury Police officers were conducting an investigation on O’Neil Drive East in Garson at 9:40 p.m. when they heard and observed a vehicle approaching them at a high rate of speed.

Attempts to stop the vehicle failed and an officer was forced to jump out of the way of the speeding car.

The vehicle continued onto Garson-Coniston Road and was stopped near the intersection of Falconbridge Highway.

The male driver was observed to be under the influence of alcohol and an approved screening test at roadside was conducted. He failed the screening test and he was taken into police custody.

He was transported to police headquarters where further breath tests were conducted, which indicated he was intoxicated by more than twice the legal limit of 80 mg.

He faces charges of impaired operation, over 80 mg and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. His licence was suspended for 90 day and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Greater Sudbury Police now release the names of impaired drivers. These press releases can be found by going to www.gsps.ca
