Two people face theft charges after they allegedly stole gas from local service stations, according to Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Greater Sudbury Police Service's alternative response unit commenced an investigation in relation to several thefts of gas that occurred between September 2011 and April of this year.

Using video evidence and witness statements, officers were able to identify the culprits as a Sudbury man and woman. The couple attended gas stations within the city and pumped about $400 worth of fuel into their vehicle and then drove off without paying.

A 27-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were arrested on May 2.

The woman stands charged with one count of theft under $5,000, while the man stands charged with five counts of theft under $5,000 and one count of driving while under suspension.

Both will appear in court at a later date.
