Collision kills passenger, sends officer to hospital

The passenger of a vehicle involved in a collision with a police cruiser is dead, while a female officer with the Sagamok detachment of the Anishinabek Police Service was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision occurred May 2 during the early evening hours on the Sagamok access road between the Town of Massey and the community of Sagamok Anishnawbek.

The passenger has been identified as Wesley Bob, 65, of Sagamok Anishnawbek. He was pronounced dead at Espanola General Hospital.

The officer is currently receiving treatment at Health Sciences North in Sudbury, according to Sgt. Barry Petahtegoose. Her leg was injured in the collision.

The driver has been charged with impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm, along with a number of other criminal offences.

Officers from the Espanola Ontario Provincial Police responded and investigated the motor vehicle accident, and continue to investigate.
