A 19-year-old Sudbury man stole a motor vehicle at knifepoint on May 21, according to Greater Sudbury Police Service.

The female driver was approached at about 4:30 p.m. by the suspect who she did not know and was ordered to give her keys to him. The suspect showed the victim a knife, according to police. The victim was getting out of her car at an address on Shelly Heights Drive.

The suspect drove the car to the area of Lasalle Boulevard and Frood Road. Police saw the vehicle and gave chase for about 300 metres. The vehicle was driving erratically and going through stop signs, so the pursuit was called off due to safety concerns.

The suspect drove down Frood Road into the Granite Street area. Police attended the area to set up a spike belt, but the suspect had already put the vehicle into a ditch. Officers arrested the lone male occupant.

Upon further investigation, the suspect was arrested for robbery, impaired driving, dangerous driving, refusal to provide a breath sample, carrying a concealed weapon, weapons dangerous, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
