Police received a complaint on June 10 from a New Sudbury resident about a group of kids who were apparently taunting a baby bear with a hockey stick.
Typically, where you find a baby bear, the mother is not far behind. Mother bears are very protective of their cubs and may attack if they feel their cub is in danger.
Greater Sudbury Police Service said it is very concerned when people purposely initiating close contact with both adult bears and bear cubs, animals that are wild and unpredictable.
If you see these animals, the logical and safe thing to do is to stay away from them. Police are urging parents to speak to their children and reinforce the dangers of going near wild animals.
