Two men are facing charges following a vicious attack early Saturday morning in downtown Sudbury.

Greater Sudbury Police responded to a call around 2 a.m. on Elgin Street after two men, aged 21 and 22, were badly beaten by the two other men, police say. The victims were repeatedly punched and then kicked after being knocked to the ground. One victim was beaten unconscious and both required medical attention for cuts and bruises.

A 20-year-old man was identified by police and he was arrested a short time later on Larch Street. He is charged with assault causing bodily harm and will appear in bail court June 18.

Another man, also 20, was arrested Sunday morning and has been charged with aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm. He was also charged with assaulting a 19-year-old woman, an incident that sparked the attack on the two male victims.

He will also appear in bail court June 18. Police say the second suspect is facing additional charges.
