A 16-year-old abandoned an ATV and tried to run from officers on June 26 when Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to several complaints of the vehicle being driven erratically around Field Street in Lively, according to a new release.

Officers of the rural unit located the ATV on Field Street; however, the teenager refused to stop for police. Officers were even forced to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, police allege. The teenager was not wearing a helmet.

After abandoning the ATV, the teen was located a short distance away and arrested. Officers determined the teen had been drinking, and a subsequent breath test registered a fail.

He was taken to police headquarters for further tests. Results showed the driver had 1.5 times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

He will appear in Youth Court in July to answer to the charges of dangerous driving, impaired operation and over 80. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the GSPS Rural unit.
