Being late for work wasn't a good enough excuse to get a 24-year-old man out of stunt-driving charges, according to Greater Sudbury Police Service.

An officer on motorcycle on July 3 at about 6:49 a.m. attended an area of Falconbridge Highway near Josephine and Emily streets, acting on public complaints of a vehicle travelling at excessive speeds.

The motorcycle officer observed a Dodge Neon motor vehicle northbound on Falconbridge Highway travelling at an extremely high rate of speed travelling toward Garson. Through the use of a radar device, the officer determined that the vehicle was travelling at 138 km/hr in an 80-km/hr zone.

The vehicle even sped at 129 km/hr through a 60 km/hr zone in a residential area of Garson.

When he was stopped, the driver told the officer that he was late for work.

The driver has been charged with stunt driving - speeding in excess of 50 km/hr or more over the speed limit and speeding 138 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone.
