A 22-year-old man was killed July 7 when he jumped off what is known as Gibraltar Rock on the French River and didn't resurface, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

The victim was one of a group of men who were camping on the French River. Gibraltar Rock is a shear rock face. The friends searched the area and called police.

The OPP marine unit attended 18 Mile Bay on the French River to search for the missing man. The search continued through the night.

On July 8, the OPP underwater search and recovery unit attended and located the man's body.

The OPP does not suspect foul play. Alcohol was not a factor in this incident.

The OPP reminds the public to take precautions when swimming in unfamiliar areas. Know your surroundings and use safety equipment.
