Police were called to the area on July 8 at about 121 a.m. when a group of canoeists discovered human remains near Soloman Bay on Philip Edward Island. The remains were in a state of decomposition, and a post mortem examination was conducted.
The remains were positively identified as those of 52-year-old Puffer of Toronto, who went missing in August 2007 while out by himself in the Georgian Bay area near Killarney. An extensive search of the area was conducted by the OPP at the time.
Foul play is not suspected.
The Killarney OPP was assisted by the OPP Criminal Investigations Unit, Identification Unit, Marine Unit and Emergency Response Unit during the investigating.
