A tire that became detached from a vehicle on Regent Street on July 16 bounced across the roadway and struck a pedestrian.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to the call at around 3:30 p.m. that afternoon. Police said the vehicle had been travelling northbound on Regent when the driver’s side front tire came loose.

The momentum propelled the tire across the road, where it struck a 53-year-old man.

The man was taken to Health Sciences North. Although he underwent emergency surgery, police said his injuries were not life threatening.

Police did speak with the driver of the vehicle. No charges have been laid, but police continue to investigate.

Any witnesses are asked to contact the Greater Sudbury Police or Crime Stoppers.
