Greater Sudbury Police are searching for a suspect who fled from police after striking another vehicle in the drive-thru of the McDonald's restaurant at around 3 a.m. July 21.

An officer had just completed another investigation, and was near the McDonald's, when he noticed a pickup truck “travelling recklessly” through the parking lot, and then travelling northbound down Regent Street.

Unbeknownst to the officer, the driver had just struck another vehicle, and was attempting to flee the scene of the accident.

Police followed the vehicle in an attempt to identify the driver, without success. They stopped following the vehicle “due to the speed and undue regard for public safety it displayed.”

A short time later, police were called to a Southview Drive home, where a resident reported that a pickup truck had struck a fire hydrant.

While police found the truck, they were unable to locate the suspect, who had fled on foot. Police used dogs to search for the suspect, without success.

The matter is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-TIPS, online at www.sudburycrimestoppers.com or by texting TIPSUD and the information to CRIMES (274637).
