Both the Ontario Provincial Police and Greater Sudbury Police Service are investigating separate cases of animal cruelty.

On July 31, Warren OPP officers found a dead dog floating in the water near Musky Island in the west arm of Lake Nipissing.

The dog, described as white with brown spots and appeared to be a Terrier, was weighed down with a rope tied to its legs.

It was a concerned citizen who contacted the OPP after seeing the dog's body.

Anyone with information is asked to call Warren OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.

Then, just after midnight, GSPS officers responded to a complaint on Elm and Durham streets, where witnesses said a man kicked and hit a dog.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, after officers learned he had been kicking and striking in the head, as well as pushing it into a pole after it had gotten off its leash, according to a news release.

He had been drinking at the time of the incident, police said.

The dog, named Sasha, is a two-year-old female Sheppard-Chow mix breed and was taken by Animal Control.
