Ontario Provincial Police said it has completed its on-site investigation activities following the fatal roof collapse at the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake that claimed two lives on June 23.

The OPP has turned over control of the building to the Ontario Ministry of Labour, which will then transfer responsibility for the building to the property owner's insurance carrier, Zurich Insurance Group Ltd.

When they were allowed access to the building on July 19, investigators were able to gather all of the necessary information to support a successful investigation, according to a news release, including a more detailed survey of the condition of the structure and creating a 3-D diagram for future reference.

Now that the on-site police investigation and analysis has been completed, requests from mall tenants and others to retrieve property from the site should be directed to the property owner and the insurance carrier.

Members of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) continue to ask anyone who believes they have information that may be important to this investigation to contact the dedicated information line at 1-855-677-4636 (1-855-OPP-INFO).
