An 11-year-old boy from New York was sent to Health Sciences North with non-life-threatening injuries Aug. 22 after the boat he was in crashed with another boat on Nepewassi Lake, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

Officers from the Sudbury detachment of the OPP responded at 6:50 p.m. to a collision involving two vessels on Nepewassi Lake in Burwash Township.

A preliminary investigation reveals that a northbound 23-foot Chaparral boat struck the side (centre) of an eastbound 14-foot aluminium boat which was stationary. The collision caused the Chaparral boat to become airborne over the aluminium boat.

The adult male driver and the 11-year-old boy in the aluminium boat were subsequently ejected from the aluminium boat and rescued.

The driver was also taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries and released.

Meanwhile another 11-year-old boy in the vessel was not injured. All three occupants in the aluminium boat are from New York.

The male driver, from Toronto, and lone occupant of the Chaparral boat was not injured.
