Police seize 140 firearms from Elliot Lake man

The Ontario Provincial Police seized more than 140 firearms from a 65-year-old Elliot Lake man after they were found to be stored in an unsafe manner, police said in a news release.

On Aug. 22, members of the OPP North East Region crime unit, explosive disposal unit, Sault Ste Marie identification unit, provincial weapons enforcement unit, organized crime unit and members of the East Algoma OPP executed a search warrant for a residence located in the Westhill Trailer Park of Elliot Lake for unsafe storage of firearms.

In addition to the firearms, officers also found a very large quantity of ammunition and gun powders.

The resident has been charged with unlawful possession of explosives, careless storage of ammunition, careless storage of a firearm and breach of firearms regulations.
