A 31-year-old Sudbury man is facing drunk driving charges after falling asleep at the wheel.

Around 3 p.m. Aug. 24, members of the public observed a car stopped at the intersection of Brady and Paris Streets. The driver appeared to be asleep at the wheel of his car. The car sat at the intersection as the traffic lights went through a number of sequences.

While Police were en route, a member of the public and a City of Greater Sudbury employee used their vehicles to block in the car with sleeping driver. Police arrived on scene, awoke the driver and detected a strong smell of alcohol coming from the driver.

The man was arrested for having care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired by the consumption of alcohol. He was taken to police headquarters were he provided samples of his breath, which led to an additional charge of having more than 80 mgs of alcohol while having care and control of a motor vehicle.

The accused will be attending court in September to answer to these charges.
