A 22-year-old man is dead after being stabbed at a pit party in Garson, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

A 911 call was received by police at about 12:50 a.m. Aug. 30. An 18-year-old man is in custody.

The 22-year-old victim was rushed to Health Sciences North where he succumbed to his injuries.

A second man received non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed. He was treated at hospital and released.

The stabbing and the pit party all happened within less than a kilometre from a gated entrance onto property owned by Vale.

A spokesperson for the company told Northern Life not much can be said about the incident or the property right now, as it is all part of the police investigation.

Amanda Eady did confirm that police did ask Vale for permission to enter onto the land to collect evidence.

She said no trespassing signs are clearly posted around the property.

“It's still unclear at this point in time as to the extent and location of the incident relative to our operations, so we're waiting for confirmation as to whether it actually happened on our property.”

The investigation is ongoing and a further update will be released at a later time.

There was a large amount of young people at the party and the Greater Sudbury Police Service is requesting that anyone that may have information in regards to this event contact GSPS at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477.
