Pedestrian struck, killed on Hwy. 17

A 20-year-old woman was killed on Highway 17, near Coniston, at 6:50 p.m. Aug. 31.

OPP say a preliminary investigation has revealed a westbound pickup truck struck a pedestrian who was walking westbound on the north shoulder of the highway.

Saoirse Sankey of Vancouver, British Columbia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man driving the truck and his female passenger were not injured.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the OPP collision reconstructionist and the OPP technical traffic collision investigator.

The highway was fully reopened to traffic at around midnight.
