A 29-year-old man was arrested at around 1:30 a.m. Sept. 2 after crashing into a parked car and a light standard in New Sudbury, and fleeing from the scene of both collisions.

The suspect first crashed into a car parked on Hillsboro Street. He sped away from the area, almost striking several vehicles on The Kingsway.

Moments later, he lost control of his vehicle, striking a light standard at the intersection of The Kingsway and Cochrane Street, shearing it from its base, and causing it to fall onto the roadway.

The suspect drove away from the second collision, even through the passenger side of his vehicle was completely demolished and the tires were falling off.

He continued until his vehicle would not go any further, and then attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, witnesses held him until Greater Sudbury Police arrived.

The suspect was found to be in possession of cocaine valued at $300, police say.

He has been charged with two counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.

The suspect is due to appear in bail court Sept. 4.
