The Ontario Provincial Police is looking for information about a Sept. 2 collision on the Manitoulin Island that sent one person to hospital with life-threatening injuries. File photo.

A 31-year-old Manitoulin Island man was sent to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries Sept. 2 after his vehicle was located in the east ditch on Highway 6 just north of Townline Road in Sheguianda, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

Two motorists spotted the vehicle well off the highway in the ditch and called 911 at about 6:49 p.m. The lone occupant of the vehicle was found laying on the ground outside of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Preliminary information reveals the collision happened hours before the man was found, police said.

Officers arrived to find the man being attended to by paramedics. He was transferred to the Manitoulin Health Centre and later airlifted to Heath Sciences North with life-threatening injuries. His vehicle was completely demolished as it appears the truck flipped several times end-over-end.

The crash closed Highway 6 for a time. Police are appealing to the public that if they know anything about this collision to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS (8477).
