A police officer wasn't injured after being hit in the head by an object thrown by a woman during an assault investigation on Bond Street, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Police were called to an assault in progress on Sept. 6 at about 6:46 a.m. Upon arrival, police saw a man laying on the ground. Two other men and a woman were standing around the man on the ground.

Once they saw police, they began to walk away, said police. One of the officers exited her cruiser in an attempt to talk to those people. A woman at the scene began swearing and threw an object at the officer, striking her in the back of the head.

She was arrested and has been charged with causing a disturbance, assaulting police and public intoxication.
