A 30-year-old Elliot Lake woman is proof that what you post on social media sites like Facebook could very well land you criminal charges.

She has been charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm after posting threatening messages on Facebook on another person's page, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

The victim reported the threats to police Sept. 5. Further investigation revealed the accused was known to the victim and both parties had engaged in a disagreement. At that time, the accused sent several messages threatening to cause bodily harm to the victim.

The investigation also revealed that the victim was intimidated by another person involved with the accused, a 42-year-old man, also from Elliot Lake. He was charged with two counts of intimidation.

The OPP would like to remind the community, what you post on Facebook can be subject to criminal charges — think before you post.
