A 40-year-old man who caused a chain reaction collision on Notre Dame Avenue and then fled the accident scene at around 10:30 p.m. Sept. 29 is facing multiple charges.

The man's vehicle rear-ended a taxi cab, causing it to strike the vehicle in front of it. The collision caused significant damage to the vehicles, and other drivers received minor injuries.

The suspect spoke to the other drivers, and then fled the scene on the pretext of retrieving documents for the vehicle.

When investigating officers went to the home belonging to the vehicle's registered owner, they found the vehicle had been sold and hadn't been re-registered.

Officers were able to locate the new owner of the vehicle and identify him as the suspect. He was found to be on probation, with the condition of being at his residence between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The suspect was arrested for failing to remain at the scene of an accident and breach of probation. He's also been charged with careless driving, failing to apply for permit on becoming owner, no insurance and having an open container of liquor while operating a vehicle.

He's due to answer to the charges in court Oct. 1.
