Alleged theft nets drug charges

A 19-year-old man faces drug- and theft-related charges after he allegedly stole money from an acquaintance and then tried to ditch six grams of cocaine before being approached by police, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Officers responded to a theft complaint Oct. 9 at about 9 p.m. on Leslie Street. Police learned that the suspect allegedly stole several hundred dollars from a female acquaintance. When officers approached the suspect, he tried to throw away the cocaine.

After he was arrested, he as found to be on a probation order with the specific conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and not have any non-prescription drugs.

He was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime and three counts of breach of probation.
