Spot check nabs two allegedly impaired drivers

Two people are facing impaired driving charges after being stopped by police Oct. 20 at RIDE spot checks in the city, according to Greater Sudbury Police Service.

At about 1:15 a.m., a 2012 Ford F150 was stopped at Ste. Annes Road. The driver, a 22-year-old man, was found to have allegedly been drinking. He failed a breath test and was taken to police headquarters. Further breath tests revealed he as almost twice the legal limit.

A short time later, at about 1:40 a.m., a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am was stopped at the same location. The driver, a 26-year-old woman, was found to be allegedly impaired. She failed the roadside breath test.

She was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where further breath tests revealed she, too, was almost twice the legal limit.

Both drivers have had their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicles they were driving have been impounded for seven days.
