Police seize $65K in drugs

Two people from Spanish face a number of drug-related charges after police seized two marijuana plants, 4,228.5 grams of marijuana and 1,038 grams of marijuana “shake,” with an approximate street value of $64,757, according to a news release from the Ontario Provincial Police.

Members of the OPP organized crime enforcement bureau, Sudbury drug enforcement unit in partnership with the Espanola Police Service and the Manitoulin Island detachment of the OPP executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant Oct. 25 at a residence in the Town of Spanish.

In addition to the drugs, police also seized six firearms and various drug paraphernalia.

A 51-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman were arrested and scheduled for a court appearance on Dec. 6.

They have both been charged with two counts of production of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and breach of firearms regulations.
