The provincial Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has completed its investigation into a bus that crashed into a Madeleine Avenue home Oct. 30.

The ministry was looking into whether the crash was caused by some kind of mechanical failure.

“We've completed our investigation and there were no defects found,” said Bob Nichols, a ministry spokesperson.

Because nothing mechanically wrong was found with the bus that might have caused the crash, Northern Life did ask the Greater Sudbury Police Service if charges were pending against the driver.

Const. Meghan O'Malley said GSPS is still conducting its own investigation.

“There is no word yet on possible charges,” she said, Nov. 8.

Following the crash, a neighbour told Northern Life the bus was turning onto Madeleine from Lasalle when it went off the road, climbed up the front yard and struck a home, coming to rest against a truck parked in the driveway and hanging over a retaining wall.

Although three students were on the bus, none were injured in the crash.

The bus struck and damaged the gas meter in the process, spewing natural gas fumes into the house and the street.

Neighbour Leo Bisson said he overheard the bus driver exclaim that she had both feet on the brake as she was turning the corner, but the vehicle was not responding.
