Elliot Lake man killed in single-vehicle crash

A 24-year-old Elliot Lake man was killed Dec. 16 when the vehicle he was driving left the road on Highway 17 near Serpent River and rolled several times, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

The driver, Serge Marcel Godbout, was thrown from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries.

A passenger in the vehicle suffered only minor injuries.

Police were called to the scene of the single-vehicle collision at 9:42 p.m. Officers learned the vehicle, a yellow Ford Explorer, was travelling west when it left the road for unknown reasons.

Police closed the road for a short time to allow investigators to conduct their work. The collision remains under investigation.

The OPP reminds motorists about the importance of wearing a seatbelt at all times while travelling.
