No one injured, police issue warning

A pickup truck fell through the ice on Vermillion River on Dec. 31, prompting a warning from Greater Sudbury Police Service to be wary of the thickness of the ice on waterways.

The truck ended up submerged in about five metres of water, said police. The occupants of the truck were able to get out before it sank, and made their way onto the shore. There were no injuries to anyone involved.

The Ministry of the Environment has been contacted and made aware of this incident.

The public is reminded to make sure they know the thickness of the ice on waterways that they venture out onto, whether it is walking or riding in or on a vehicle.
