A 47-year-old man has been charged with arson following a suspicious fire on Jan. 7 outside a Glendale Court home in Val Caron, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Firefighters responded to the call at 5:18 a.m. The fire caused $3,000 worth of damage before it was extinguished. Greater Sudbury Fire Service said Jan. 6 that the fire was deemed suspicious because  it was started outside the home, and that there had been no apparent cause.

However, a police investigation revealed the suspect, who is known to the homeowner, had deliberately set the fire, but for reasons unknown.

No one was injured in the incident.

The suspect has been charged with arson endangering human life and breach of probation. He remains in custody.
