A 36-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving after he hit a sign and a cement barrier leading to an underground parking lot on Paris Street near Brady Street, and then drove into a snow bank, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

The collision happened Feb. 3 at about 4:15 a.m. Police located a 2007 Toyota Yaris in the snow bank. The driver was located nearby. After speaking with him, police determined the driver had been drinking and made a demand for a breath test. He failed the breath test.

The driver was arrested and taken to police headquarters. He refused further breath tests.

The driver has been charged with impaired driving, refusal to provide breath samples and owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance. His licence has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Greater Sudbury Police now releases the names of impaired drivers. These press releases can be found by going to www.gsps.ca.
