The Ontario SPCA has charged a Killarney man with one count of causing an animal to be in distress and seven counts for failing to comply with standards of care under the Ontario SPCA Act after removing 65 dogs from his care.

The Ontario SPCA received a call from a concerned citizen regarding multiple dogs living on a Killarney property, according to a news release. The Ontario SPCA responded and conducted a full investigation.

A warrant was executed on Dec. 17, 2012, and upon veterinarian recommendation, 65 Weirmaraner/Labrador retriever-type dogs, of all ages, were removed from the Killarney property.

The dogs were transported to an Ontario SPCA facility where they stayed until they were later surrendered to the Society.

The dogs have since been transferred to Ontario SPCA Adoption Centres across the province and when ready will be placed for adoption.

“Responsible pet ownership is everyone’s responsibility,” said Ontario SPCA Senior Insp. Lynn Michaud. “If you ever fear that you are unable to provide for your animals, we encourage you to reach out to the Ontario SPCA and we can discuss what options are available. We are here to help so that no animal is left to suffer.”
