Greater Sudbury Police were called to the Ledo Hotel around 5 a.m. Feb. 17 to tend to an unknown trouble complaint. A man calling from the address reported that unknown people had broken into his room and where trying to set it on fire.
When police arrived, they determined the caller had purposely set a paper plate on fire in his own room. The same man later went into a common area in the building and attacked another tenant, punching and kicking him. The victim sustained minor injuries.
The smell of smoke filled the room and the hallway, however, no damage was sustained. There was no need to evacuate the building, according to police.
Following the series of events, police arrested a 26-year-old man with arson, assault and breach of probation. He is set to appear in bail court Feb. 17.
