Crime Stoppers and the Greater Sudbury Police Service is asking for help to identify the person/persons responsible for damages done to a Caterpillar 816F garbage packer while it was on the Greater Sudbury Landfill property on Montée Rouleau in Azilda.

Sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 and 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 18, 2013 unknown suspect(s) started a fire underneath the packer. Many non-steel parts either burned or melted and there was also smoke damage caused by the fire, said police.

Early estimates indicate it could cost as much as $25,000 to make the required repairs in this matter.

Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers is convinced someone has information on the identity of the suspect(s) and therefore a guaranteed minimum $1,000 reward is being offered — and an additional $4,000 reward is being offered by William Day Construction — for tips received before midnight on Wednesday, Feb. 27, if the information leads to an arrest.

The standard process for determining reward amounts will apply for tips received after the deadline.

If you want to provide information on the identify of the person or persons responsible for this mischief complaint or have any information about other criminal activity, and you want to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 705-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit an online tip on our secure website www.sudburycrimestoppers.com.

You can also now text your tip by texting TIPSUD followed by your information to CRIMES (274637).
