Use of ATVs on local roadways is currently prohibited, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

That fact hasn't stopped some ATV drivers from travelling on roadways, though. Further to that, some drivers aren't wearing their helmets. As a result, six people have been charged in the past week in ATV-related incidents of that nature.

ATVs being driven on the roadways and ATV operators not wearing helmets poses obvious safety concerns, said police.

The City of Greater Sudbury ATV bylaw was suspended for the winter months from Nov. 30, 2012 to March 31, 2013. The bylaw allowing the use of ATVs on local roads will be in effect across the City starting April 1, 2013.

For complete details, the public is encouraged to review the bylaw on the City of Greater Sudbury website at www.greatersudbury.ca/atvbylaw.
