A 16-year-old has been arrested after he was found to be in possession of property that did not belong to him, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

It is believed by police that the young offender had been stealing from parked cars in the New Sudbury area; however, there are no reports of the thefts at this time.

Property located on the youth at the time of his arrest on Feb. 20 included an Australian coin. He was arrested in the Fielding Road and Westmount Avenue area of New Sudbury.

The teen was held in custody on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated matter, breaching his court order and possession of stolen property.

Vehicle owners who may have been victims of theft Feb. 19 are asked to report their information to police.

Everyone is reminded to lock their vehicles when unattended on the street, in parking lots, even in your own driveway. Criminals who steal property in this manner walk around checking vehicle doors and victimize those they find unlocked, said police.

Rarely do they break windows or do damage to steal in these thefts. The easiest way to defeat them is to lock your doors.
