3 Sudbury men die in plane crash

According to media reports, the Grey County OPP has identified the victims of the plane crash have been identified as 71-year-old Richard Leland Gougeon, and 43-year-old James Thornton Gougeon, both of Sudbury, and 51-year-old Richard Ross of Walden. Ross was the plane's pilot.

The three men, who are related, have been taken to London University Hospital for post-mortem examinations. The cause of the plane crash is unknown at this time. The investigation is continuing, and information will be released as it becomes available.

Three Sudbury-area men were killed July 4 after their amphibious airplane flipped over and crashed on Georgian Bay north of Owen Sound, according to media reports.

Grey County OPP say the plane was approaching the runway when it crashed about 200 metres from Griffith Island, north of Owen Sound in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

They aren't yet commenting on what might have caused the crash.

Police are not releasing the names of the victims pending notification of next of kin.

The Owen Sound Sun Times is reporting the victims were aged 45, 52 and 72, and were related.

 

CTV is reporting that the three men were Sudbury businessman Rick Gougeon, his nephew Jamie Gougeon and son-in-law Richard Ross.


The Transportation Safety Bureau will be on site July 5 to aid in the investigation.
