Teenage boy hit by truck on Highway 17

A teenage boy sustained life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a pickup truck while walking on the side of Hwy 17 around 11 a.m. this morning.   

 

The highway remains closed between the Garson-Coniston Road and Highway 537 and will remain so for several more hours, OPP Sgt. J.P. Graham said this afternoon. Traffic is being re-routed around the scene.  

 

OPP accident scene reconstructionists are now working to determine how the collision, which happened just before 11 a.m. today, occurred.  

 

"The pickup truck was driving eastbound on Highway 17 just past Coniston, and the pedestrian was on the same side of the road as the truck," Graham said. 

  

Neither the name of the victim nor that of the male driver of the pickup has been released. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Police are on the scene of an accident on Hwy 17 near Coniston where a child was struck by a vehicle.  

 

The OPP say no information is available about the child's condition, but the victim has been taken to Health Sciences North. Neither the age nor the gender of the child is known at this time.

Hwy 17 between the Garson-Coniston Road and Hwy 537 is closed at this time because of the incident.

The accident occurred sometime after 11 a.m.
