On Tuesday Oct. 8 at 7:05 p.m., Sudbury OPP received a call from a man using a satellite phone advising that a member of their hunting party had not returned to a designated location.
Alton Lake is situated in a remote area of an unincorporated territory about 100 km north of Sudbury near Halfway Lake Provincial Park. There is no road access and the hunting party was flown in to the area by an aviation service.
An extensive search was immediately started by the OPP's Emergency Response Team along with the OPP helicopter and OPP canine unit. The Rescue Co-ordination Centre from Canadian Forces Base in Trenton was contacted and is assisting in the search.
The search resumed this morning at daybreak and is continuing.
