Excavator operator killed after machine flips

A 51-year-old man has been killed after the excavator he was operating in a swampy area on a bush trail north of Dominion Drive in Valley East flipped over Dec. 28.

A 51-year-old man has been killed after the excavator he was operating in a swampy area on a bush trail north of Dominion Drive in Valley East flipped over Dec. 28.

The victim was located by a fellow employee, who notified emergency services at around 3:30 p.m. Police, fire and EMS extricated the man, but were unable to revive him.

Greater Sudbury Police are not releasing the victim's name at this time.

A Ministry of Labour investigator conducted an on-scene investigation, assisted by Greater Sudbury Police's criminal investigation division.

Northern Life attempted to contact the Ministry of Labour about the incident, but has not yet been provided with any information.
